Your Starting Kit for Home Repair

When purchasing a house for the first time, you have a lot to pay for besides your mortgage. Even if you have lived in your own apartment before, a house comes with lots of new responsibilities. You are responsible for all of your own repairs now, and you can also make any adjustments you want without asking a landlord for permission. Make sure you have all of these items so that you can keep your home running smoothly.

Basic Tools

Every homeowner needs a toolbox. If something breaks, you don’t want to have to run to the store or borrow a tool from your neighbor. While you don’t need to buy the entire hardware store, everyone should have these essentials. Keep a hammer, nails, several kinds of screwdrivers, a tape measure, sandpaper and pliers on hand. You can buy most of these items as part of a kit or you can purchase them separately. Depending on your home’s condition and whether you plan to conduct extensive renovations, you may need more expensive tools such as drills.

Repair Materials

While machines are useful for many household tasks, they do tend to malfunction. You may want to have spare parts such as Parker hose products for the machines that you use every day. Even if you cannot replace the parts yourself, a repair person will probably charge you less money if you provide the part yourself. You will also not have to wait for the delivery of a part when your washer or dryer breaks.

Outdoor Needs

Unless you are living in a townhouse, you probably have a lawn to maintain. You can choose between the different kinds of lawnmowers, which include driving and pushing models, depending on how large your yard is. Rakes are helpful for disposing of fall leaves and weeds. If you want to maintain a garden, you will need a trowel for planting and digging up weeds. Branch cutters are helpful for pruning bushes and removing dead branches from trees. Don’t be afraid to call a tree cutting service if the branch you need to remove is extremely thick or high up, though.
